Humans Account for Less Than 50% of Global Web Traffic

I came across a very interesting infographic that I’m sharing with you today.

We all know that web traffic has increased over the years, and that it surely will be in the future. However, I had no idea that majority of website traffic is actually not human browsing.

Statista analysed Incapsula’s Global Bot Traffic Report (2014) and found that humans account for less than half of global web traffic.

Traffic breakdown:

  • 44% is human traffic
  • 56% of website traffic were actually bots that automatically browse websites
  • 27% of those are good bots (such as search engine crawlers that index content of the website)
  • The remaining % of automated traffic is malicious: impersonators (22%), hacking tools used to steal data, etc. (3.5%), content scrapers (3%) and spammers (0.5%).
